What is this place, and how is it a game?
Valhalla Station is all about creativity, and more specifically creative writing as a group.
In the mid-to-late 1990's the internet was a much different place. In those days, before MMO's and Discord and the like, it was much harder to create online communities and interact with like-minded folk from around the world. Although I am not exactly sure of the very beginnings of communities like this, one of these early online communities revolved around the idea of inviting people to create a character, and to join in contributing to a shared story.
My father, who passed away in 2005, was part of that community, called "FDTF" - the Federation Defensive Task Force, ran by a man named Paul Slusser. In fact, there are still remnants of this website online! While I was too young at first, eventually I too joined this community. As it evolved, eventually my father - known in this community as Admiral Calador Noah - created a sister website to FDTF, called Valhalla Station. Until his death, he ran and participated in those communities and with those people.
Now, Valhalla Station returns. Finally securing the original domain valhallastation.net, that years ago was home to many creative storylines and interactions, our aim is to recreate those experiences - to bring Star Trek fans together and provide an ever-evolving story that everyone can add to.
How do I start playing?
To start, register here on the forum - and be creative! Maybe you want to portray a Vulcan medical officer, or a Denobulan security guard. Decide your name, and you're encouraged to create a biography and make a New Player post.
Don't include ranks in your name - ranks are earned and awarded to members over time.
Once you're all registered, you'll want to find an available "job". These are normally posted in the "Department Information" boards under each department's section on the main forum page. Jobs, in this context, are just where your character is assigned on the station - you don't have "work" to do. As you contribute to the story, having your character assigned to a role and section of the station will be vital.
If you find a job you like, follow the application instructions on the posting. If you don't see something you like, or have an idea for a job that doesn't exist yet, follow the instructions on the post for what to do next.
I still have questions!
